New Attendance Law

September 7, 2018

A new TN school attendance law went into effect this school year. As in previous years, 5 UNEXCUSED absences is considered truant. Beginning this year, if a students reaches 5 UNEXCUSED absences, the student’s parent(s) will be required to have a conference with school officials about the student’s attendance. If your child is absent, please be sure to send in a note explaining his/her absence. The following are acceptable documentation to excuse and absence: Up to 5 parent notes per school year for any reason; notes from your child’s medical provider; notes from required court appearances; documentation from a family member’s funeral; military deployment documentation. If you have any questions, contact our attendance secretary, Catherine Baker at 931-648-5665.
