It’s Traffic Safety Week @ NEMS

April 1, 2024

“This week is Traffic Safety Week at NEMS! As part of our focus on student safety, we want to stress the importance of driver, pedestrian, and bicycle safety for all students. With this in mind, we would like to stress the importance of safe practices regarding the following modes of student transportation:

  • Parent Transportation (Drivers): Smartphones, handheld games, noise-canceling headphones, and other technology present safety concerns when students are distracted while traveling. It’s important for families to partner with us to reinforce safety. Drivers: Follow posted speed limits, school zone lights, other signage, and directions from crossing guards. Stay alert at all times. Be aware of the surroundings. Cut out distractions like texting while driving. Be patient.

  • Pedestrian & Bicycle Riders: Look both ways before crossing traffic . Follow posted signage and directions from crossing guards. Use designated crosswalks. Stay alert at all times. Be aware of surroundings. Cut out distractions like texting while traveling, handheld games, and noise-canceling headphones. Be patient.
